Eyelid plastic surgery

Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) is a plastic surgery, which aims to restore suspended eyelids by removing additional tissue: skin, part of muscle, and fat layer.

This operation is usually done for aesthetic reasons, as suspended eyelids change the expression: the face looks tired and older than it really is. However, the cosmetic reason is not the only one, because this plastic surgery is also done to people who complain about severe suspended eyelids, which reduce field of vision and this way disrupts the visual function.

About the procedure

Aging skin changes because collagen fibers lose their rigid structure, so elasticity of the skin decreases. In addition, skin is constantly exposed to gravity, therefore tissues that form eyelids start to noticeably accumulate at the top and bottom eyelids. Additional tissue layer in the lower eyelids starts to wrinkle and on the top eyelids it starts getting heavy and drops on the lids, causing noticeably more narrow field of view.
Fat in the eye socket can also cause appearance of “swollen” eyelids, as the thin membrane, which holds the fatty tissue in placeb, becomes weaker in time. It also leads to the appearance of “under eye bags”.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Suitable candidates for blepharoplasty are people with realistic expectations and in a good health condition. Usually, this surgery is performed on people from 35 years of age or older, but if there is a family line with suspended eyelids – the surgery can be performed earlier.
Eyelid plastic surgery will improve your appearance, enhance self-confidence and bring you to your former natural appearance.

When you are preparing for eyelid surgery, the first step is the consultation with a plastic surgeon. You will learn about the main steps of preparation process, you will discuss your health condition and expectations. The specialist will examine your eyelids and tell more about the procedure and future result. If you are unable to attend the initial consultation, we can always consult you remotely by e-mail: info@sapiegosklinika.lt

The operation takes approximately two hours if it is performed on both (lower and upper) eyelids. Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia, during which the area around the eyes is injected with anesthetics and it becomes insensitive to pain.
Surgical incisions are made through the natural lines of the eyelids, so that there would be lesser trauma. Skin layers are separated and all redundant tissue is removed, it can be: fat, skin or muscle part. Then the skin is sewn up with fine seams. On the upper eyelid they stay from 3 to 6 days, and depending on the surgical technique there can be no seams on the lower eyelid.

You can go back home on the same day and the seams will be pulled out in a week. During this time, there may be a slight swelling of the eyelids and bruises, due to the reaction of the tissue, but all these factors are normal and will disappear after 1-2 weeks. You will be able to enjoy a perky glare, significantly altered expression and, of course, self-confidence after about 10 days!
